State Rep. David Graves' Influence on High School Kids

Wednesday, September 28, 2005

Dear PV,

When I first read the article about Rep David Graves and his DUI being in the line of duty, so to speak, I was hoping it was not a Republican. Sad day for the Grand Old Party.

I am a High School teacher and I am so afraid some teen ager will read about Rep Graves and think--if adults like State Representatives can do it, there must not be anything wrong with it.

So how does one decide which law to break?

PV's Comment: First, you have to be a legislator so you can claim any kind of immunity...after that, while most misdemeanors are exempt from "arrest" during the legislative session, they are not necessarily exempt from "prosecution" after the Session is over.

We don't believe Graves' lawyer understands the law. There is a difference between "arrest" and "prosecution."
