Barrow County GOP Report

I thought y'all might like to hear about a rather sedate and peaceful county convention.Barrow County is a small rural county nestled between Gwinnett and Oconee Counties. On a per capita basis we did above average in attendance with some of the larger counties with 30 dyed-in-the-wool Republicans.

The slate of officers elected for the next two years is:

Chairman - Mike Pentecost
1st. Vice Chairman - Ray Newman
2nd. Vice Chairman - Cal Neff
Secretary - Teeny Hang
Treasurer - Ken Young

Barrow County GOP has a full slate of delegates to both conventions and a sufficient number of alternates to assure excellent representation at both conventions.

The Dade County Republican Party conducted their biennial convention on Saturday, March 8th at the Dade County Administration Building to elect officers to serve the local party for the next two years. Casey Jones was unanimously and enthusiastically chosen by the delegates from all seven Dade County Precincts to lead the County party until 2005.

Mr. Jones has been actively working in the Republican Party for the past several years both in Dade County and at Dalton State College where he served as an officer and organizer of the College Republican organization at the college. He came into prominence at the 10th District Republican Convention last year when he introduced Congressman Nathan Deal as the convention guest speaker. His introduction remarks were well received by delegates from all 15 counties in the 10th District.

"Dade County Republicans are proud that we have such a talented young man as our Chairman. It has long been a goal to build the party with young people with fresh ideas and enthusiasm," said Bill Adams, the retiring Chairman. "I can now concentrate more fully on running for reelection as 1st Vice Chairman of the 10th District."

There were a number of new faces added to the county party as well as few old ones to keep continuity. Lee Riddle was elected as 1st Vice Chairman, Monda Wooten, 1st Vice Chairwoman, Bill Marshall, 2nd Vice Chairman, Regina Parris,2nd Vice Chairwoman, and Bill Adams as combined Secretary and Treasurer. The five Committee Members at-Large are J.L. Black, John Deffenbaugh, Janet Hunter, Mark McAlpin, and Nancy Burton. Eighteen Delegates and six Alternates were elected to attend the 10th District Convention on April 5th in Gainesville, GA., and Eight Delegates and five Alternates to the State Convention May 16 and 17 in Macon. This represents a full delegation to both conventions as allowed by party allocation.
