Should we be surprised when a State Senator, who leaves the Democratic Party, not for ideological reasons, but for personal gains, still acts like a Democrat?

The echo of cheers had not died down in the room at Governor Sonny Perdue’s victory party when the telephone call from State Senator Don Cheeks of Augusta came in saying he wanted to switch political parties. Of course his betrayal of the Democrat party came with a price: he wanted to keep his seat as Chairman of the Senate Banking and Financial Institutions Committee and he wanted a cancer center built in his district. At the time, it seemed a small price for the Republicans to pay someone to betray his party and give us the majority.

Soon after dumping his “beliefs” and the Democrat party to become the newest Republican in the Senate, Senator Cheeks could be found nuzzling the cheeks of the “Big Guy” in a press release that proclaimed that “he and Mark Taylor” had negotiated new language with S&P to end the crisis instigated by the poorly-written, poorly-researched Georgia Fair Lending Law, circa 2001. It seems that Senator Cheeks quickly forgot what side he was on now that he is in bed with the Republicans.

We Republicans should learn the lesson of the man who fell in love with a married woman. She was married but soon dumped her husband for her new love only to be caught soon thereafter cheating on her new husband. Senator Cheeks is the cheating wife who hops from one bed to the other depending upon the passion of the moment. He has shown his true colors to both the Democrats and the Republicans this year. Should we be surprised that he is cheating on us with Mark Taylor?

Further, Senator Cheeks still acts as though the Republican leadership does not need to be consulted when he bounds about setting policy and “dictating” that HB 142 will never pass the Senate. Who elected Senator Political Hussy to the Senate leadership?

Senator Balfour, Chairman of the Republican Caucus, has reason to be angry, and as Chairman of the Rules Committee, the means to do something about it. You see, Senator Balfour submitted SB 28, which closely resembles HB 142 to the Senate floor. Now Senator Cheeks, our new “ally,” has proclaimed it to be DEAD in favor of his new bill, SB 53.

So, Senator Cheeks? Whose side are you really on? Theirs, ours, or yours?

Senator Cheeks seems to have no loyalty to the Democrat Party, none to the Republican Party and one must wonder if he has any to the People of Georgia. Oh, excuse me, as Senator Cheeks and his buddy Senator Vincent Fort have clearly shown us on many occasions, the People of Georgia are just the stupid subjects of their crown. Men like Senator Cheeks are only loyal to themselves.

Remember the words of wisdom: Never trust the words a cheater, for their actions betray the true loyalties of their heart.
