The advantage of the nukes is that they have longer ranges. However the point still stands, China is rapidly closing the gap on us. What they do is get on the surface, open the throttles full blast to barrel-up to maximum speed, and then shut them off while at the same time opening-up all the windows for a crash dive so they can coast for awhile under the sea without running the diesels.
