Rumors have it that Governor Sonny Perdue has made his choice to head the Georgia Department of Industry, Trade and Tourism (GDITT) board: Glenn Cornell. Cornell will report to Jim Lientz, Georgia's Chief Operating Officer.

GDITT is the state's lead sales and marketing arm, charged with recruiting businesses, trade partners and tourists to Georgia. GDITT is divided into four units: Economic Development, Trade, Tourism, & Administration and operates under the direction of a Board of Directors, comprised of 21 members appointed by the Governor.

Mr. Cornell currently serves as Senior Vice President and Manager of Economic Development and Government Relations for Bank of America Mid-South.

Governor Perdue stated that "[Cornell] is considered one of the state's and nation's most respected economic development professionals. I am seeking the GDITT board's endorsement to bring this knowledgeable leader on board to serve the citizens of Georgia. He will be an asset to my team and our state," added Perdue.

PV Laments For Gilhuly: In our December 22, 2002 issue, we discussed the possibility that Cobb GOP Chairwoman Marilyn Gilhuly was vying to be appointed head of the Department of Industry and Trade. We expressed our opinion that such a move would be one that would spell more disaster for Perdue than anything else he would have done.

If Perdue raised taxes 10-fold, it would be less disasterous than having Gilhuly positioned anywhere in Georgia government.

If one wished to get an idea of how much havoc this one person could wreak, just picture Sybil with her 15 some-odd different personalities being responsible for any position in government. There's a nightmare to scare schoolchildren with...
