Re: Linda Schrenko

I am troubled by the recent attacks on former State School Superintendent Linda Schrenko by fellow Republicans. While her political and sometimes people skills were admittedly minimal, she was a loyal Republican who fought hard for local control and teachers rights against two anti-teacher Democrat governors. She was a thorn in the side of the micromanagement of Governor Barnes. When they he attacked the character of Georgia’s teachers, Dr. Scherenko defended the teachers and made sure they remembered on Election Day. She more than anyone played a major role in turning out the Teacher vote and that played a major role in our victory last year. Yet, some recently elected people have forgotten.

They seek to join the anti-Schrenko chorus in hopes that the liberal print media will accept them as a fellow traveler. They take the side of the Barnes appointed bureaucrats on the State School Board rather than the side of the teachers and Dr. Schrenko. This is unfortunate. She carried the torch for us for many years. She should be remembered as flawed, but heroic champion of our party for over 8 years. Her name should be not be sullied by RINOs ("Republicans in Name Only").
