 - Barr Press Release

Former Congressman and Impeachment Manager Bob Barr released the following statement today regarding Hillary Clinton's characterization of the impeachment process in her newly published book:

"Joining forces with Sid Blumenthal and other so-called historians of the impeachment process, Hillary Clinton has fired yet another shot in the battle to rewrite the history of her husband's impeachment.

The obsession President Clinton's former advisors, allies, and immediate family members have with defending the indefensible continues to amaze. This was indeed a regrettable episode, but it was made so by President Clinton's decision to lie under oath, not by some mysterious vast right-wing conspiracy.

The book is a gross and deliberate mischaracterization of the impeachment process. The House Managers, restrained by an uncooperative Senate, were forced to present their case, constrained by the rules placed upon them. The notion that the Managers did not revere the seriousness of the situation is ludicrous.

Our nation continues to fight terrorism around the globe and struggle to boost our national economic performance. Yet, the best thing New York's junior senator can find to do with her time is write tell-all books about an unusual marriage and a disgraced presidency.

Surely, New York's voters deserve better than this."

Barr, a former member of the House of Representatives, has served with the Central Intelligence Agency and the Department of Justice. He currently occupies distinguished chairs at the American Conservative Union and the Freedom Alliance, and consults with the American Civil Liberties Union on privacy issues.
