Atlanta, GA - Governor Sonny Perdue made appointments today to the Governor's Office of Highway Safety. Robert F. Dallas, a native of Cuba, was appointed Director and Robert G. Mikell will serve as Deputy Director.

"Our state and the motorists who travel on Georgia's highways will be well-served by these new appointments to the Governor's Office of Highway Safety," said Governor Sonny Perdue. "Robert Dallas and Robert Mikell will make a great leadership team for this important office. We must continue to educate Georgia's motorists about safety on our roads to reduce accidents and save precious lives."

Brief biographies of the newly appointed members are provided below:

Robert F. Dallas, 47, Dunwoody, GA - Since 2003, Dallas has been a partner at Shaw, Evans, and Dallas, LLC in Atlanta, GA, where he represented business clients in all areas of commercial disputes, specializing in complex bankruptcy and employment law. From 1989 to 1996, Dallas was a Senior Commercial and Bankruptcy Law Litigation Associate with Powell, Goldstein, Frazer & Murphy. Dallas earned his Juris Doctor from Georgia State University College of Law in 1989.

He also holds bachelors and masters degrees from the University of Florida. Dallas has served as a State of Georgia Public Service Commission Hearing Officer, DeKalb County District One Planning Commissioner, Safe Kids of Georgia Director and past President, and DeKalb County Children's Initiative and Collaborative Board Co-Chairman. Dallas, who was born in Havana, Cuba, is married and has two children.

Robert G. Mikell, 33, Snellville, GA - Since 2000, Mikell has served as the Deputy Chief Assistant Solicitor-General of the Stone Mountain Judicial Circuit in Decatur, Georgia. He has also served as Assistant District Attorney in the Rockdale Judicial Circuit in Conyers, GA and as an attorney with Fain, Major, & Wiley, P.C.

Mikell earned his Juris Doctor from Washington and Lee University School of Law and a Bachelors degree in English from The Citadel. Mikell has been active in the Technical Advisory Panel to the Georgia Drug Recognition Expert Program, the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Citizen's Academy, the Steering Committee for PAC's DUI & Vehicular Homicide Course for Prosecutors, and DeKalb County's High School Ghost-Out Program.
