Jimmy Carter has written a Washington Post op-ed piece, criticizing the Bush 43 administration for attempting to stop a madman from getting nuclear weapons with which to terrorize the planet.
This caused quite a discussion between Talking Points and a Socialist Democrat that went something like this:
SD: Even Jimmy Carter is against war with Iraq.
TP: Jimmy Carter?! His greatest achievement in foreign policy as President was to overthrow friendly anti-communist repressive authoritarian regimes and replace them with unfriendly, communist more oppressive totalitarian regimes during the height of the Cold War. What fool would listen to his advice in foreign policy?
SD: I think it is good advice.
TP: You would. Jimmy Carter did NOTHING to aid in winning the Cold War and in fact, he and his brethren and sisters were actually a huge IMPEDIMENT to winning the Cold War.
SD: Well, how am I going to explain to my children why we are fighting Iraq, I mean, we backed them during the Iran -Iraq war.
TP: So you're not going to stop a madman from attacking the United States with nuclear weapons because you can't out-think a nine year old?! That's so pathetic. And we backed Iran before we backed Iraq, so what's the point with that? We beat Germany and Japan and then became their friends. Why is that? BECAUSE THE PEOPLE IN POWER WERE DEFEATED AND REPLACED. 'Nuff said.
SD: [skulks off.]
