The Department of Motor Vehicle Safety was created out of units of the DOT, PSC, Department of Revenue and Department of Public Safety.

DOT and PSC enforcement units (weight stations), the Tag office of the Dept. of Revenue and the Drivers License Division of the State Patrol (Public Safety) were all rolled into one department under Roy Barnes two years ago.

DMVS was $2 million in the hole last year. The SNAFU can be blamed on one dept. only: The Dept. of Motor Vehicle Safety.
