Governor To Move Capital to Bonaire, Issue Executive Order

Thursday, April 01, 2004

STATE CAPITOL, ATLANTA - Governor Sonny Perdue has announced that right after this legislative session is over, he will sign an executive order that will move the capital city from Atlanta to Bonaire, Georgia, which is Perdue's home town.

In his press release, Perdue mentioned his homesickness for the seed-and-feed lifestyle of yesteryear.

"Me and Mary have lived in this governor's mansion for right near a year-and-a-half, and we're still not used to all of the luxuries here on West Paces Ferry Road. Running hot water is fine and everything for you city-folks, but there's nothing like a brisk cold-water shave to get you going in the morning. It's time to get back to the good 'ole homestead and I'm taking the government right back with me."

When Secretary of State Cathy Cox was asked for her opinion on the Governor's upcoming move, she shrugged and replied "I pretty much ignore the Governor, regardless of who holds that office. If he moved to Bonaire, that'd be just fine with me."

Lt. Governor Mark "Jethro" Taylor was a bit more enthusiastic, exclaiming "Hot damn! Now I can go back to sliding on the marble floors in my socks like I did when Roy was here!"

No word yet on exactly how much the move will cost, or how much might be gained from such a move in terms of less expensive operating costs. Trey Blesskin, the Governor's policy wonk, indicated the savings could be in the multi-millions.

"Just one example of significant savings will be the fact that since there is a Hooters restaurant nearer to where we will hold sessions, people like State Senator Joey Brush will spend less time and less of his per diem on the women he meets at the capitol and go right to Hooters to get his extra-marital affairs needs taken care of. Saves the taxpayer right there, and he's just one example of many!"

We called the State Ethics Commission's Executive Secretary Teddy Lee and asked him whether he would move to Bonaire. His response was "I already moved once this year for the Governor. General Lee will rise from the dead if I move again. Lee and my kinfolk go way back and the General told me to stand my ground from here to eternity."

We will keep you up to date on all of the Governor's moves...even when he doesn't know what or when they will be...
