GWINNETT GOP TO HOST UNITED STATES SENATE REPUBLICAN PRIMARY DEBATE ON MAY 1ST
GEORGIA GANG HOST, DICK WILLIAMS TO MODERATEGwinnett County, GA - The Republican Party of Gwinnett County will be hosting a United States Senate Republican Primary Debate on
Saturday, May 1, 2004 at the Gwinnett Civic and Cultural Center (Address: 6400 Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth, Georgia 30097). Doors will open at 6:00 PM, and the debate will begin at 6:30 PM.
Dick Williams, host of television’s
The Georgia Gang, will moderate the event. All four of the Republican candidates are confirmed to participate, including alphabetically:
businessman Al Bartell, former Godfather’s Pizza CEO Herman Cain, Congressman Mac Collins, and Congressman Johnny Isakson.
"We are very excited about this debate, and the exposure it will bring for all of the Senate candidates here in Gwinnett County. I think it says a lot for the state of Georgia to have men of such high caliber running for this office. It’s a win-win for Georgia", said debate organizer and
Gwinnett GOP Vice Chairwoman Julianne Thompson.
Thompson added, "Admission to the debate is free. We want to encourage all citizens to attend, but seating is limited, so those interested in bringing large groups may contact me at 404-798-4663 to discuss reserved seating. We want young people to become more involved in the political process, so we would really love to see large groups from local high schools and colleges."

When Republican Legislators Act Like Mealy-Mouthed Democrats, It Just SucksRumors have it that a band of really, REALLY pissed-off Republicans are launching a full-fledged ground war against Republican legislators like
Senator Eric Johnson and Senator Casey Cagle, as well as
Governor Sonny Perdue.
The beef? The
sellout of the people of
Unincorporated Sandy Springs ("USS") who have been working diligently for 30 years to form a municipality of their own for self-governance. A municipality, by the way, that has been prevented from happening for the past 30 years because the Democrats had controlled both houses (or, so the captives of USS thought).
A municipality, by the way, that was SUPPORTED by
Democrat Congressman John Lewis this past session, who wrote an op-ed in the AJC supporting the plan. In his opinion,
"If we believe in democracy for Iraq, we should believe in democracy for Sandy Springs."And, of course, a municipality opposed by the usual nimrods at the
Metro Chamber of Commerce. An organization, by the way, who might as well operate under a d/b/a called the
Metro Chamber of Communists.

To an insider like the PV, there is something quite mystifying about the relationship between Hamrick and Johnson. Something that would cause Johnson to go from
the tone of his memo to Mayor Franklin in October of 2003 to "Oh, Shirley! However much money the state can give you, I'll work very, very, VERY hard to guarantee that YOU get everything I can give you from the state's largess...really...by the way, do you need your car waxed? I can do that on the weekend...oh?...you need it right away? Okay, Shirley! Sure thing! And, please make sure you tell Linda what a good job I'm doing for you so she won't yank the nose ring so hard next time..." leads us to believe that the good senator's sense of judgement may have become rather...
corrupted in some way by the likes of Linda Hamrick.
Yes, there is something quite troubling about the influence that Hamrick wields over Johnson. This is not your normal influence relationship between a lobbyist and a legislator. This spells major trouble for the Republican agenda if the Senate Pro-Tem can be turned around 180-degrees from his former course with such ease...

State Senate District 32 Just Became More InterestingEAST COBB REPUBLICAN TAIN KELL ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR OPEN STATE SENATE DISTRICT 32 SEATMarietta, GA - April 9, 2004 - Tain Kell, of East Cobbannounces his candidacy for the Georgia Senate seat in district 32.
Kell, a Republican and a 40-year resident of East Cobb, is a partner in the Marietta law firm of Brock, Clay, Calhoun, Wilson & Rogers, P.C., where he specializes in education law, general litigation, civil rights litigation, mediation and arbitration. He served 10 years at the Georgia Attorney General’s office under Michael Bowers before entering private practice.
“Tain's roots in this community, knowledge of education issues and experience in state government make him ideal to be the next State Senator to represent the 32nd district,” said Stan Wise, Georgia Public Service Commissioner and East Cobb native. “I have known Tain and his family for nearly four decades. I know he has the integrity and common-sense values that reflect our community.”
Kell is the 2004 Chairman of the East Cobb YMCA Advisory Board, the Vice Chairman of the Marietta Area Council of the Cobb Chamber of Commerce and serves on the Board of Directors for the Cobb Chamber of Commerce.
He is an alumnus of Leadership Cobb, a member of the Marietta Kiwanis Club, the Touchdown Club of Atlanta, the Cobb Bar Association, the Cobb Christian Lawyers Association, and serves on the President’s Committee on Rules for the Georgia Bar Association.
In addition, Kell is an active member of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in East Cobb.
Kell has served as a party precinct chairman, resolutions committee member and county candidate qualifier for the Cobb County Republican Party. He has served as a delegate to Cobb County Republican Party conventions since 1997. He has served as a delegate to many 6th District and state Republican Party conventions and attended the national convention to nominate President George W. Bush.
He is an alumnus of Wheeler High School in East Cobb, and University of Georgia, where he graduated in 1984 cum laude and with honors. He also received a J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1987.
Kell is the son of longtime educator and community leader Carole Kell, and the late Carlton J. “Corky” Kell, for whom the newest Cobb County high school is named, as well as the statewide high school football tournament, the Corky Kell Kick-Off Classic. He resides in East Cobb with his wife Sheri, and their son Carlton.
Senate district 32 is largely comprised of East Cobb but also includes portions of Sandy Springs. It is currently an open Senate seat.
