Georgia State Representative Jill Chambers (R-53) has authored a bill that requires consumer credit reporting agencies to notify consumers when a person other than a person with whom the consumer already has a business relationship makes a inquiry concerning the consumer's file with such agency.

The Bill, HB 656, is titled The Consumer Credit Protection Bill, and it is designed to help give consumers a "heads-up" when someone who was not specifically authorized to paw into their credit history does so.

Ms. Chambers has had over 110 bi-partisan co-sponsors, and more Representatives went to the Clerk's office to sign on after the bill was dropped on Monday. Chambers said, "This will be major legislation and will allow Georgia to take the lead in preventing Identity Theft by limiting fraudulent access to the consumer's credit information.

PV Cheers Jill Chambers On!: We're glad to see someone taking the lead in getting some legislation passed that would benefit all Georgians instead of being beneficial or harming a few segments of the population.

PV Is Disappointed To Report: Rumors have it that the perennially losing Republican candidate, Jamie Sibold, had hoped to run for chairman of the DeKalb County Republican Party. But, after several phone calls to DeKalb folks, he discovered his candidacy wasn't going to be well-supported. So, what does he do? He's decided to physically move into Representative Jill Chambers' district to challenge her in 2004 for her re-election.

Ms. Chambers was only one of 18 House Members recently that voted against the Governor's Budget to raise taxes, and she recently issued a resolution to name a building in Dekalb after the late Sheriff of Dekalb County, Derwin Brown.

Ms. Chambers beat-out a Democrat, Ralph Bowdon, last November 5 to win her seat in a district drawn to favor Democrats 58% to 42%. Chambers successfully defeated Bowdon because she hammered home the point that he was not a legal resident in the district and was only living there part-time to run for office.

PV Sighs: The only good thing we can say about Jamie Sibold is that he's an arrogant jackass who might be good to have around to start a fight with Democrats. But as far as being able to deliver a winning message, he's not qualified to hold an office, much less be any kind of leader. We look forward to working to help re-elect Jill Chambers.
