The Saga of A Congressman’s Lie – Part 3

by Bill Simon

You might be amazed at the types of letters I receive from people who hold “sitting congressmen/people” in so much high regard that to speak ill of them is to violate some kind of code of honor in their minds.

Well, I have a code of honor to uphold myself. It is the code that says when a public official (whether that public official is a Democrat or a Republican or whatever) actively engages in a deception of a highly aggravated nature, that it is MY responsibility to combine my personal skills of political analysis and writing to communicate to anyone what I have observed.

Since my initial release calling Price a “LIAR (cubed)”, two things have surfaced that are pertinent to the story: 1) An e-mail statement from Tom Price to Bill Kinney at the Marietta Daily Journal describing HIS version of the communications with the League of Women Voters, and 2) An electronic recording of the first part of the event forum at the League of Women Voters.

Let’s cover #1 first. This is the letter from Tom Price himself to Bill Kinney that was printed in the Saturday, June 3 edition of the MDJ (In a few days, I will have a PDF copy of the entire article, complete with the publication date, so as to allay the concerns of the people who have a deep-seated need to lie about me and my accuracy):

When the League of Women Voters, who were hosting a candidate debate in conjunction with the Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials, informed my campaign that they had selected the date and time of May 31 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. to hold a debate, my campaign let them know that I would unfortunately not be able to attend due to conflicting events.

Those conflicting events included a meeting with district veterans at a Marietta VFW Post from 5 to 7 p.m. and the East Cobb Civic Association Candidate Forum, which was scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. After meeting with district veterans from 5 to 7 p.m., I was able to attend the East Cobb Civic Association Forum from approximately 7:15 to 8:30 p.m.

For the record, the underlining above was not in the original publication of the letter. However, both sections are integral to the lies propagated by Price. The first underlined portion will be rendered as Bull-Manure once you listen to the audio-tape of the League’s forum; the 2nd underlined section will be discussed in Part 4 of this Saga.

I was given a good tip of where on the Web to find a snippet of the video-taping…the snippet starts at the very beginning of the LWV forum and ends right after Price’s Former Campaign Manager Debbie DeLong finishes reading Price’s letter to the forum. (I say “former” because Ms. DeLong started a new job on June 1…at least, that was the rumor I heard.)

In its original form, the snippet was in a video format with a low volume. I took the video into some editing software I had to boost the volume and, not knowing what the heck I was doing at the time, produced a rather large file of video and audio tracks.

I was able to extract just the audio portion, which is a much smaller file for everyone concerned: easier/quicker for you to download (unless you’re still on 28.8K dial-up), AND, if the traffic to my site increases rather sharply, the system won’t be so overloaded with download requests and use my bandwidth capacity for the month in one shot.

In order to listen to the audio, you will need something like Real Player (available FREE here). You will also have to download the file to your hard-drive as I am not capable of “streaming” the sound to you.

The first voice you hear is that of Jennifer Owens whom I believe is the Executive Director of the Cobb County League of Women Voters. She proceeds to explain everything about the League and the forum and stuff…and, then she gets to the part about how SHE called the Congressman and asked him to GIVE her the dates he was available.

So, after you hear the recording (and, play it back several times because you may not catch everything that Ms. Owens says on the first go ’round), the logical question to be asked is this:

In order for Tom Price to be telling the truth in his letter to Bill Kinney, Jennifer Owens MUST BE LYING. And, to let you know, she would have been lying in front of a crowd of about 200 people. Why would she do that? Why on Earth would she risk screwing-up the entire organization she works for to lie about her interaction with Tom Price?

I, for one, do not think she is lying on this tape. I do not know her…I’ve never met her…But, I’ll let the news reporters who MIGHT be interested in pursuing this story to its logical conclusion ferret-out the truth.

  1. Rev. Dr. William H. Swann Says:

Tom Price has always been a liar so it isn’t like he’s changed by becoming a Congressman. He will go out of his way to lie even when the truth suits him better. It would be a great day in America if Congressman Price had to answer for every lie he has told in just the last 4 years.

  2. Bill Simon Says:

He’s only been in Congress for the last year-and-a-half, Rev. 🙂

  3. Lynn Says:

I think Dr Swann is refering to Tom Price’s lying about the vote on the state flag 4 years ago. Tom Price promised in his capitol office in 2003 that the 56 flag would be included. That was a lie.

    Ah-ha. Good point, Lynn.

Posted a link about this on DailyKos.

Maybe Steve Sinton can get some national attention!

Today's Deep Thought

One thing I always felt bad about was kicking Grandma in the head with my football shoes on. But what was her head doing right by the football like that? And how did the football get in her bed?
