Georgia’s Next Secretary of State – Campaign Disclosures

by Bill Simon

Rumors have it that the first quarter’s disclosures from the two leading candidates, Karen Handel and Bill Stephens, will show the following:

Bill Stephens raised $33,000 and has $142,000 Cash on Hand.

Karen Handel raised $177,000 and has $310,000 Cash on Hand.

Because this first quarter of 2006 was a legislative quarter, Stephens was hampered in what he could raise. However, Handel’s impressive amount of $310,000 on hand may be a clear sign of careful money management. The June 30 quarter should be very revealing as to who will be on top of their game and be able to defeat the other.

  1. Sam Says:

Stephens can’t even fund his campaign through 7/18. He’ll have to raise a lot of money to be able to get his name out. Look at his 2nd disclosure, his ability to raise money is questionable at this point.

Today's Deep Thought

The whole town laughed at my great-grandfather, just because he worked hard and saved his money. True, working at the hardware store didn't pay much, but he felt it was better than what everybody else did, which was go up to the volcano and collect the gold nuggets it shot out everyday. It turned out he was right. After forty years, the volcano petered out. Everybody left town and the hardware store went broke. Finally he decided to collect gold nuggets too, but there weren't many left by then. Plus, he broke his leg and the doctor's bills were real high.
