Political Vine: The Insider's Source on Georgia Politics

The Political Vine is the home of political news, satire, rants, and rumors.

“Hi, Barack, I’m Phil, back with new knee-pads to tryout with you…”

Rumors have it that the following Republican U.S. Representatives from Georgia have successfully reached the nadir (someone help Lynn Westmoreland understand what this word means) of their political life, and who all have earned D.C.’s most coveted award known as “Who Will Kiss Obama’s Ass This Week?Award:

Doug Collins (R-POS)
Phil Gingrey (R-POS)
Austin Scott (R-POS)
Lynn Westmoreland (R-POS)
Rob Woodall (R-POS)

Word is that Jay Carney has the White House gnomes busily etching granite award plaques so each member of this Gang of Five will have something to proudly hang on their office wall by the end of July.

Now, you might be pondering “Well, what on Earth did this Gang of Five do to earn such illustrious awards?” Very, very good question.

In today’s action on the House Floor, an amendment to H.R. 2397 (the “Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2014”) was voted on. The amendment was a bi-partisan amendment sponsored by Justin Amash (R-MI) and John Conyers (D-MI).

The amendment was a simply-worded amendment that sought to prohibit the NSA from their warrant-less, blanket surveillance of everyone’s telephone records, and thus upholding the 4th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that prohibits illegal search and seizure by the government.

Here’s a link to the toe-to-toe of Myth vs.Fact between Amash/Conyers and the White House.

Here is a good interview between the WashPost and John Conyers.

This is a link to the Votes on this Amendment.

The amendment failed by 7 votes. And, while there will be those who will claim “Well, these 5 would not have mattered anyway,” well, actually, you’re wrong.

Because, there are Republicans ALL over the House who look towards their allies in other states for judgement on how to vote, and had these 5 Republicans voted in favor of the Amendment, it’s a darned good chance that their vote to join Tom Graves, Tom Price, Paul Broun, and Jack Kingston, who all voted in favor of the Amash/Conyers amendment, that group-effort would have signaled to others in other states that the Georgia Republican delegation were 100% behind the effort to limit NSA’s ability to spend our tax dollars in violation of the 4th Amendment, and given others the courage to buck their state leaders (sic).

Kudos to Broun, Graves, Price, and Kingston for voting for the citizens of Georgia to feel secure in their own homes, and in their own conversations with people.

“To HELL with you!” to Collins, Gingrey, Scott, Woodall, and Westmoreland. You five have more than demonstrated that you are not “Republicans”, but mere supporters of the Barack Obama Agenda. Congrats on voting with both what Barack wanted and what Nancy Pelosi wants.

Note to Phil Gingrey: Did you see the last poll? You were down to 15%. We’ll pop corks when you sink down to 8%…which, with just one or two more votes like these, isn’t very far off.

Phil, I am glad you came out this early so I will know not to waste my vote on you. I will say that I am shocked to see you support Obama and his admin.’s agenda. Look like a back stabber. How can you vote against the constitution?

    Thanks for the help

Today's Deep Thought

When Rick told me he was having trouble with his wife, I had to laugh. Not because of what he said, but because of a joke I thought of. I told him the joke, but he didn't laugh very much. Some friend he is.
