“Hi, My Name Is Ex-Congressman Mark Foley…Can You Give Me Your E-Mail And Send Me Your Pic?”

by Bill Simon

Let me get this straight: The freakin’ CHAIRMAN of the House Caucus On Missing and Exploited Children sent e-mails to underage male pages that talked about how much in (fitness) shape they were and if they would e-mail him a picture of them…even when the page didn’t work for the congressman directly?

Nahhh, there’s nothing bizarre-o about that. Nothing that might cause Caucus Chairman Rep. Mark Foley (R-FL) to feel the need to RESIGN immediately from the House…

Well, here is the trail of the e-mails in question…it certainly looks semi-baffling to me as to why Foley would be asking for an e-mail pic in such a casual e-mail about how the underage page was weathering a hurricane.

AND, even juicer is this transcript of Instant Message Chats between Foley and a “young stud”….

  1. caroline Says:

There’s lots more information coming out on this one. ABC news seems to have a lot of the updated information. The emails are from 2002, they aren’t recent.

  2. David Says:

    Caroline,

Does that mean the intern was 16 at that time, meaning he’s 20 or so now?

  3. caroline Says:

Not sure. I haven’t read everything. Here’s the link:
    http://blogs.abcnews.com/theblotter/2006/09/exclusive_the_s.html

They seem to have the most updated information.

  4. David Says:

Just clicked on the link. Unreal! This guy is dangerous. I didn’t even finish reading the emails from 2003. It’s enough to make you sick.

If anyone in the republican party (or anyone else for that matter) knew of THIS type of content they should all resign.

  5. Buzz Brockway Says:

Foley did the right thing by resigning and he should cooperate with any investigation that may take place. He does not deserve to represent anyone as an elected official.

Meanwhile, Barney Frank remains an honored member of the House of Representatives:

  6. Bill Simon Says:

I forget…Did Barney Frank accost/involve himself physically with either an intern or a page?

  7. GaLiberal Says:

“The emails are from 2002, they aren’t recent.” Excuses, Excuses. If this was a Democrat, you bozos would be shitting bricks with glee. But, since it’s one of you’re own you find a way to make excuses.

Your great leader Bob ‘The Asshole’ Barr impeached a President over an affair between CONSENTING adults and you fell all over yourselfs with orgasmic joy. But not now. Just excuse the behavior. Next, you’ll be attacking the pages for being so sexual and inticing. Typical Republicon hyprocracy.

  8. Bill Simon Says:

Had President Clinton had his freakin’ mind on his job, rather than getting a blowjob, maybe Osama would have been captured or killed before he could plan his 9/11 job.

I’m not excusing Bob Foley, and I’m not saying anything about the date of the e-mails, GaLiberal. The FBI is investigating it more fully now and I hope anyone who knew and was in a position to do anything about it should have their heads lopped off.

  9. caroline Says:

The Barney Frank incident had nothing to do with pedophilia. Neither did the Suggs or Crane cases that probably someone else will try to shop around here.

    Bill Simon,
    Don’t be a Bush apologist.

  10. Bill Simon Says:

Caroline: I’m not being a Bush apologist, but GaLiberal has his mind on the past and so will I.

  11. John Konop Says:

    Buzz,

This is crazy any Congressman who knew this and did not tell parents and law enforcement should resign !!!!

If this happen at our kids school and they did not tell parents or law enforcement for 5 years what would happen ?

It turns out Foley’s obsession with 16- and 17-year-old male pages has been known to Republicans on Capitol Hill for at least five years.

But other than issue a warning, little else seems to have been done about the congressman.

A former page has come forward to tell ABC News warnings were issued about Foley to the pages in 2001.

Matthew Loraditch says pages were told to watch out for Foley.

“It was a slight cautionary statement, you know, ‘Don’t get too wrapped up in him being too nice to you and all that kind of stuff.’ You know, ‘He’s a nice guy, but he’s a little bid odd,’ and that sort of thing,” Loraditch said

  12. John Konop Says:

Ex-Rep. Foley Checks Into Alcohol Rehab

Now Foley is claming the drinks made me do it!

I strongly believe that I am an alcoholic and have accepted the need for immediate treatment for alcoholism and other behavioral problems,” Foley said in a statement, Roth told the AP

Now Hastert says he did not see the problem with some of the e-mails.Who would want Hastert watching your kids ?

This came from the AP article.

But Hastert said those e-mails were not viewed as “sexual in nature” and that he was not aware of “a different set of communications which were sexually explicit … which Mr. Foley reportedly sent another former page or pages.”

The speaker was in Washington meeting with his staff, the House clerk and Rep. John Shimkus, R-Ill., the congressman who oversees the page program, to review the procedures on protecting the teenage pages while they are working at the Capitol and after they finish their assignments, said Ron Bonjean, Hastert’s spokesman.

I HAVE AN IDEA WHY NOT CALL THE POLICE AND PARENTS WHEN CRIMES ARE COMMITED.

  13. AMcManus Says:

Disgusting. Anyone who had any knowledge of anything even remotely resembling what we have heard about this had an obligation to say something to the parents and to law enforcement. If they didn’t, they are just as guilty in my book.

It disgusts me that the party I have worked so hard for is so caught up in maintaining a majority (which they aren’t doing anything to deserve) that they would comprimise the safety of someone’s child. To hell with all of them.

Perverts come in all shapes, sizes and political parties and why the House leadership isn’t ready to draw and quarter Foley is beyond me. I don’t know what makes me angrier…Foley’s actions or the lack of rage we are seeing out of his friends on the hill.

And I don’t buy this alcoholic crap either. I have been drunk plenty of times and not once has the alcohol made me want to have sex with a minor.

    Just disgusting.

  14. Bill Simon Says:

    John,

Do we know if this is, indeed, a “crime?”

Salacious talk via IMs is not the same thing as an in-person visit like they show on TV every week.

  15. John Konop Says:

    Bill,

If you want a crazy twist , he wrote the law that will put him in jail. But he is know working on the I had a drinking problem so forgive me.

“Under laws that Congressman Foley helped write, soliciting sex from a minor online is a federal crime,” the Nevada Democrat said. “The alleged crimes here are far outside the scope of any congressional committee”

LET ME HELP FOR ANYONE WHO DOES NOT GET IT , CALL THE POLICE AND TELL THE PARENTS!!!!!!!!! DID YOU HEAR ME CONGRESS ? WE DO NOT NEED ANOTHER STINKING HEARING CALL THE POLICE TELL THE PARENTS !!!!!!!! ALL NEED TO GO TO JAIL AND RESIGN IF YOU KNEW ABOUT THIS BOTTOM LINE AND DID NOTHING TO TELL THE POLICE AND PARENTS !!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU SHOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO WORK WITH KIDS AGAIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/10/01/foley.quits/index.html?section=cnn_us

The Florida Republican resigned Friday amid scrutiny of his e-mail and instant-message contacts with pages. The six-term Florida congressman was co-chairman of the Missing and Exploited Children’s Caucus and a prominent backer of legislation to crack down on online predators and criminalize child pornography on the Internet. (Watch how politics inspired Foley at age 6 — 2:44 )

  16. John Konop Says:

    AmcManus,

That was a great post! You are 100% right. This is not a political issue. How could any parent not report this ?

  17. bill Says:

But did he exploit the children with his “caucus”?

  18. bill Says:

the only thing I like about Barney Frank is perhaps he’s not as “blackmailable” as some of these other creeps. And I can really respect that.

  19. bart brannon Says:

From wikipedia about the Barney Frank incident — ‘In 1990, the House voted to reprimand Frank when it was revealed that a male prostitute Rep. Frank befriended Steve Gobie after hiring him through a personal advertisement, had conducted prostitution ring business from Frank’s apartment when he was not at home. Frank had dismissed Gobie earlier that year after learning of Gobie’s activities.

The Boston Globe, among others, called on Frank to resign, but he refused. The House Ethics Committee recommended Frank be reprimanded because he “reflected discredit upon the House” by using his congressional office to fix 33 of Gobie’s parking tickets. Attempts to expel or censure Frank failed; instead the House voted 408-18 to reprimand him.’

Frank should have resigned then, Foley should be arrested now.

Of note, Foley was a co-sponosor of HR3132 aka the Child Safety Act increasing punishment against convicted pedophiles on the federal level. He also joined with a hand full of Republicans voting in favor of the so-called Conyers amendment (HA544-A025) adding hate crime status to crimes against homosexuals.

Foley is a flaming moron who deserves jail time wearing a pink jumper while living in the general prison population…pass the soap Bubba.

  20. bj Says:

I’m of the opinion that where there’s this much smoke there’s fire, so the FBI investigation will tell the tale. That’s providing, of course, that someone higher up the food chain doesn’t stop them from revealing the results of an investigation.

One wonders how Foley ever got his committee chairmanship. Aren’t there screenings? Security and background checks?

  21. John Konop Says:

    b,

That is a great point, “One wonders how Foley ever got his committee chairmanship”. “Aren’t there screenings”? “Security and background checks”?

  22. bj Says:

Of course it then occurs to me that maybe he was appointed for the simple reason that he would be easy to control by certain means . . . like blackmail . . . Nah, I can’t believe that of our folks in higher office. Can you?

  23. bill Says:

The “honey trap” is a cottage industry up in D.C. I bet most of those scums are caught in the sticky icky.

  24. bj Says:

It’s not just a federal issue, as anyone in New Jersey can tell you after their change in Governor last year.

  25. John Konop Says:

    Bart,

I an in shock we agree that Barney should be in jail. This what I posted yesterday on the PP.

This is not a party issue it is a Congress issue.
And your party has coverd for Barney Frank for years.I wrote a letter published in the paper over a year ago saying it was time for both parties to clean up their act. The two guys I named was Delay and Frank. This has to do with Americans not demanding Congress to act like adults.

Read this from the Washington Post.

Gobie’s dream has come true. His accusation that Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) knew that Gobie had operated a prostitution service out of Frank’s Capitol Hill apartment became national news after it was first reported Friday by the Washington Times.

Frank, one of two openly gay members of Congress, confirmed Friday that he paid Gobie for sex, hired him with personal funds as an aide and wrote letters on congressional stationery on his behalf to Virginia probation officials, but Frank said he fired Gobie when he learned that clients were visiting the apartment.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/local/longterm/tours/scandal/gobie2.htm

  26. John Konop Says:

BTW, If you think my asking Congress to call for anyone in the mix to resign
is over the top read the following:

Denny Hastert, who said the Act was critical in “preventing child exploitation, stopping child pornography and creating new criminal offense penalties protecting children from the Internet,” proclaimed:

“At home, we put the security of our children first and Republicans are doing just that in our nation’s House. We’ve all seen the disturbing headlines about sex offenders and crimes against children. These crimes cannot persist. Protecting our children from Internet predators and child exploitation enterprises are just as high a priority as securing our border from terrorists. . . That’s why today we passed the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006.”

From George W. Bush, President of the United States, when he signed the Act into law:

And the bill I sign today will strengthen federal laws to protect our children from sexual and other violent crimes, will help prevent child pornography, and will make the Internet safer for our sons and daughters. . . .

Protecting our children is our solemn responsibility. It’s what we must do. When a child’s life or innocence is taken it is a terrible loss — it’s an act of unforgivable cruelty. Our society has a duty to protect our children from exploitation and danger. By enacting this law we’re sending a clear message across the country: those who prey on our children will be caught, prosecuted and punished to the fullest extent of the law.

  27. Marion Wall Says:

The military has a policy of “Don’t ask, Don’t tell” (about gays). Is that what happened on the side that is shooting the salvos against Speaker Hastert?

  28. ronchew Says:

Left leaners all: Pay close attention. Read carefully and see if you demand the resignation of ANYONE (other than the stiff) over this. Remember, all your democrat comrades stood behind…er..um beside Studds on this issue. (and by the way Caroline, it’s studds not suggs, AND the incident involved a full contact abuse with a MINOR!)

“Studds acknowledged his homosexuality in 1983, when he admitted having a relationship with a 17-year-old male page a decade earlier.”

I hope all you libs out there are even MORE outraged at the democrats for letting this full contact, physical, no “holes” barred, child abuse to happen.

Finally, Foley resigned, Studds was embraced and re-elected.

    Sad, very sad.

Today's Deep Thought

When Rick told me he was having trouble with his wife, I had to laugh. Not because of what he said, but because of a joke I thought of. I told him the joke, but he didn't laugh very much. Some friend he is.
