Are you comfortable with having Sam Alito approved as the next Supreme Court Justice?

Hello Bill – you don’t know me but I know kickass…. I’d like your thoughts on the possible appointment of Sam Alito to Sandra Day O’Connor’s seat on the Supreme Court.

Welcome to the world of WordPress blogging, btw!

Hi, Vicki. Thank you for helping test out the site that Kickass installed.

To your question…I have not had the time to listen to any of the hearings, so, I’m going on what I remember being said about him on one particular issue, and that is related to the abortion issue.

I recall one of the things said/written about Alito was that he didn’t believe there was a
“constitutional right to privacy,” and this could become the basis for overturning Roe v. Wade.

Without getting into any kind of argument over the concept of abortion, I think anyone who doesn’t believe that people have an inherent, innate, or even an unalienable right (as described in the Declaration of Independence) to privacy, then I will fear what Judge Alito does on the Supreme Court, whether on the matter of abortion or ANY matter concerning the rights of citizens vs. the rights of government.

    Your thoughts?

    Cool site.

[…] Just got the new Political Vine site up and running with a new Custom Kickass WordPress Theme. Not only did we rise to the challenge of putting this prolific pol onto the new WP 2.0, but we’ve also, through some custom spider magic from Shawn at AutoMapIt converted the formerly asp part of Bill’s Political Vine site into static and more easily search engine spiderable html pages, thus making this a truly KICKASS upgrade! I’m next going to build a great “front door” entryway, but the biggest “engineering” feats have been completed. […]

    Hello again, Bill.

My thoughts…. hey, you want to move to Utah so we can have real privacy here?

I am 100% in agreement with you. In the short run, Roe vs Wade is only a stalking horse; in the long run, Mr. Alito’s backpedaling on privacy is seriously scary.

I think the only thing that perhaps mitigates my unease about Mr. Alito a bit is the fact that he’s only one…. though of course that’s never a guarantee of anything.

I’m a major believer in personal freedom (until your fist hits my nose!), states’ rights, and the privacy of the individual. I’m pretty seriously unhappy with the last appointees to the Court – well, I’m pretty seriously unhappy with the current administration for a number of reasons.

Thanks for a thoughtful response. I’ve bookmarked Political Vine, and will be linking some of your posts to a blog or so of my own.

Thank you, Vickie! As soon as I figure out what all of these new terms mean (bookmark, bookmarklet, spider, etc.), I might become as “hip” on blogging as you and Kickass. 🙂

Today's Deep Thought

I scrambled to the top of the precipice where Nick was waiting. 'That was fun,' I said. 'You bet it was,' said Nick. 'Let's climb higher.' 'No,' I said. 'I think we should be heading back now.' 'We have time,' Nick insisted. I said we didn't, and Nick said we did. We argued back and forth like that for about 20 minutes, and then finally decided to head back. I didn't say it was an interesting story.
