One thing I always felt bad about was kicking Grandma in the head with my football shoes on. But what was her head doing right by the football like that? And how did the football get in her bed?

Ralph got his ass smoked. Now if we could just get the hypocrite to haul his slimy carcass back under the rock he crawled out from under where he belongs.
July 19th, 2006 at 11:38 am
Speaking of getting smoked, how about Mike Byrd getting the boot? No doubt the land deals got him. You just can’t do that and get away with it. That is one issue voters don’t seem to forget. Buzz Ahrens must have had a strong grassroots campaign, because he had hardly any signs and just a couple mailings.
If there had been a decent candidate to go against Derek Good, he would have gotten beat too.
Hopefully Mary Wilhite can win the run-off and Cherokee County can continue getting rid of more “mafia” people. Byrd getting beat is a huge start. And I think the voters will vote in Gina Carr over Charlice Byrd, too. This has got to take some steam out of her campaign already.

Buzz was elected the same way ol’ Sonny got elected – he wasn’t the unpopular incumbent, he had a simple message and he didn’t have baggage.
Slow-growth Johnston was a shoe-in the anti-growth 1st and 2nd district, and this is where Buzz won his election as well.
Unfortunately, Waldrop was running in the complacent 3rd and 4th district. Also, he had a little baggage from the 90s, and without the funds to clear up his name, he was in trouble.
July 19th, 2006 at 2:42 pm
Chris, what do you mean “without the funds to clear up his name”?
July 19th, 2006 at 6:02 pm
Bill
I think Chris is saying that Waldrop didnt have the funds to send out mailings responding to all of Good’s negative mailings about him. Good is one
nasty s.o.b. I got at least 3 nasty mailings from Good about Waldrop.
July 19th, 2006 at 6:05 pm
You know, contributions. Good sent out at least two mailers that did nothing but bash Waldrop. One even called him a felon, which is just stupid since felons can’t vote, much less run for office. It would’ve been nice to clear this up for the general voters. Incumbents supported by developers have the cash to be outrageous.
July 20th, 2006 at 10:31 am
If the mailpiece called him a “felon” then he should sue Good.

The run-offs for Handel & Black are going to be interesting. They both did well in the primary, and should have some good momentum going into the run-off.
July 21st, 2006 at 3:40 am
Here in Cobb, Helen Goreham winning without a runoff surprised me. Of course, Kathie Johnstone is toast in the school board Post 6 runoff, as well she should be.
Statewide, I don’t know if Jim Martin’s first round lead is that signifigant. I have no data to back this up, but my impression is that Greg Hecht voters are more committed, which means everything in a low-turnout runoff. Buckner or Hicks? My nose tells me Buckner, but I won’t be surprised either way.
Let’s see, based on the mailings I received, Karen Handel supports gay rights and Bill Stephens was a Clinton supporter. How much lower can they go in a runoff? Stephens will have to find a way, otherwise it’ll be Handel.
July 22nd, 2006 at 5:32 pm
Stephens started attacking Handel before she even got in the race. She is the only one who has outlined what she wants to do to improve the operations of the SoS.
Stephens is an ethicaly challenged has been. Let put him out to pasture.
July 22nd, 2006 at 7:51 pm
Sounds good to me, Sam. May Sonny join him this November!
July 23rd, 2006 at 2:48 pm
I was really surprised by Stephens’ interviews on TV. He seems like he’s totally out to lunch. And he had odd mannerisms and facial expressions.
He’s married to WSB’s Shannon Walsh BTW.
I voted for Handel anyhow and will again.
July 24th, 2006 at 1:32 pm
Nice to see Bailey and Martin endorse Handel today.
July 24th, 2006 at 5:53 pm
One has to love my dad always does what is right and picks the winners. I think the votes he picked up will help Karen in the run off.
July 24th, 2006 at 8:52 pm
That’s true Kevin, I heard he was at the forum tonight in Cherokkee county supporting Karen

I understand that Cherokee Election Commission head Alan Schnall (sp) is a MAJOR contributor to Mike Byrd ($1500!). I don’t know if this was for last election or the one before. If this is the case, I would expect that the Cherokee Election people would be VERY picky about the names on Gina Carr’s petition. Can anyone confirm if Schnall is a booster of Mike (and therefore probably Charlice) Byrd?
July 25th, 2006 at 12:01 pm
Kevin, I have to clear something up. I didn’t realize that you would be running against Mary Wilhite. Ordinarily, I would probably vote for you. But Mary is a friend and I will be voting for her. I hope you can put some life in the Cherokee Democrats though. The GOP here needs some competition.

From the above website, I learn that his name is spelled Shinall. The below website (not sure if this link will work) has a Judy Shinall (wife?) as a donor for Charlice. Is Gina doomed already? They better be fair up there, or I will follow up!

Bill, I know the Mary and Sean are in a run off and who knows who will show up to vote. I have to stay quiet on this matter and for the life of the Dems. I hope to bring some spark to the other citizens of the county. I know after helping my dad carry South Georgia in 02 outreach is important. I am sitting on pins and needles wondering who will pull the run off and in.
July 25th, 2006 at 3:59 pm
opps phone rang at the end of my post the “in” was suppose to be “win”.
July 26th, 2006 at 10:21 am
Kevin, if Jerguson wins, you have my vote and you’ll get plenty of votes.
July 26th, 2006 at 6:03 pm
Thanks Bill. I hope the run off race settles down and does not get ugly.
August 9th, 2006 at 5:01 am
Bill,
Can you have Mary give me a call.

Not to steal the thunder from John and Bart’s ongoing duel. Before I give my new web page address I was wondering since John is for the event to raise money at the courthouse. The Democrats could sponsor a boxing match in the square maybe some of the funds could go to repair the gazebo. The new web page address is http://www.kevinforhd22.com
Once more I would like to thank John and Bart for keeping me amused in the past two weeks. For those worried the actors John and Bart would not be hurt in the boxing match had to include the disclaimer in that line.
Thanks,
Kevin M. Bailey
