Mike Huckabee: “It is ‘a biblical duty’ to pass more regulation to fight global warming…”

Bill Simon, December 13th, 2007

Biblical duty, huh? People have compared Huckabee to Bush. I have compared Huckabee to Bush. I cannot tell which one is the bigger Socialist (yes, that’s “Socialist” with a capital “S”) between the two.

This is a very interesting excerpt from an article on FOXNews.com:

Calling himself “a different kind of Republican,” Huckabee often appears to be channeling John Edwards or Lou Dobbs. He rails against high corporate profits and attacks free trade agreements. As governor, he raised the minimum wage and increased business regulation. He says it is “a biblical duty” to pass more regulation to fight global warming.

Yes, yes, a “biblical duty.” Why stop there, Huck? Isn’t it a biblical duty to convert all Jews to Christianity? Or, to rid the Earth of all homosexuals? Waterboarding is the perfect way to get homosexuals to either convert or simply drown.

Even Mobs of People Can Make The Wrong Assumptions on The Fair Tax

Bill Simon, December 13th, 2007

This columnist has the right approach on the actual number-crunching of the “fair tax.”

ALSO, I’ve yet to see any article that discusses using the Fair Tax to REDUCE the size of government. With all the supposed “inefficiences” driven-out of the tax collection process, is there a guarantee that Congress will work to reduce the size of government?

Mike Huckabee: The more I find out about him, the less enthused I am…

Bill Simon, December 12th, 2007

Just how many feet can Mike Huckabee fit into this mouth? Sure, he’s an affable-sounding guy, but his comments on the Mormon religion demonstrate an abject lack of knowledge about ANYTHING outside of the little world in which he lives.

“Don’t Mormons believe that Jesus and the devil are brothers?”

I cannot wait to hear what this guy thinks about Judasim…I’m sure there’s enough room in his mouth for more feet…

In Other Words, F*CK The Stupid Liberals & Their Stupider Ideas About Gun Ownership

I Feel Like Writing Another Gun Celebration Column

by Ted Nugent

Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at 12:00 PM

As always, the cover-up runs wild, the denial nearly airtight, the unprofessional, deceitful, antiAmerican misrepresentation securely locked in place by a media intent on its anti-US Constitution, anti-freedom, anti-individualism agenda. When it comes to guns and God, we can rarely expect to read anything in the drive-by media of America and beyond even approaching how the vast majority of Americans feel, and in fact, know in our hearts to be right. So the Yankee guitarplayer will cover central Texas for ya all. I know I stand with the best of the good folk, and proud of it.

Jeanne Assam was one of approximately 7000 worshippers at the New Hope Church in Colorado Springs last week. A gathering of Christians praising God and dedicating themselves to a spiritual upgrade to be better Americans and human beings. It is the basic premise of churchgoers everywhere in this unique land where freedom of religion is considered a “self-evident truth” and individual right bestowed upon us by our Creator. A weekly thank you to Him seems to be in order by those good souls who still think clearly and pursue a good, positive way of life. It is all good.

But Jeanne, God-bless her righteous soul, was packing two handguns this fine church day. She had never had the need to draw either one of her guns in the past, but as a thinking, caring American, she knew that rugged individualism and real world independency means being prepared. And prepared she was when the loud, shocking concussions of rifle shots rang out in the entranceway of the church. Her natural instincts of good over evil kicked into gear, and like millions of concealed weapons carriers across America, the pistols in her belt gave her pragmatic confidence that she could neutralize an apparent evil force in the House of God.

Jeanne didn’t run scared, scream, cower, or flee for her life. She knew that to do so was to give signals of helplessness and in fact, be helpless. Instead, she drew a gun and raced toward the approaching gunshots, just like I have written in so many of my writings over the years. When a human being gives serious, genuine thought to the incremental programming of sheepishness so thoroughly crammed down America’s throats by a media infested with cowardly liberals, condemning individual rights and thinking, natural instincts dictate just the opposite response, and Jeanne was living proof.

And this dainty, svelte young woman couldn’t possibly fit the profile so desperately attempted by the anti-gun nuts, for she has no macho baggage and no intentionally misrepresented NRA imagery to overcome. She is a woman, a human being, with the natural right to defend herself and innocents from evil, and she did what her heart told her to do.

Further irritating the mainstream media’s hatred of Christianity, she credits God as her guiding light, protecting her from the hi-powered rifle, two handguns and more than 1000 rounds of ammo in the possession of the maniacal madman attacking her congregation. She courageously ran toward the danger and shot the bum dead. Next.

We like it when maniacal madman hellbent on slaughtering innocents are shot dead instead. And we like brave people who know that innocent lives need to be protected from madmen by shooting them dead with a gun on our person. We know that gunfree zones are irresponsible, dangerous, anti-human, anti-security and anti-American. We don’t like politicians or people who pretend otherwise. We don’t think a madman who opens fire in malls, cafeterias, churches, schools or our neighborhoods have any rights whatsoever. We believe good should live, evil should be gotten rid of. And we know the difference between good and evil without some newspaper editor or bureaucrat telling us if we got it right or not. I wish there would always be a Jeanne Assam every 100 feet in America so the bad guys would get the real message from America “Don’t tread on me!” Threaten innocent lives and we will shoot you dead.

I’m sending Jeanne Assam an expensive Christmas present and a life membership in the NRA.

Fred Thompson Has A Great Plan To Reduce Taxes on Americans

Bill Simon, November 25th, 2007

I have to admit, I am a little concerned with the slower (and sometimes bumbling) campaign pace of Fred Thompson , BUT, his tax plan for new economic growth has me downright excited! This is his plan:

§ Permanently Extend the 2001 and 2003 Tax Cuts: Unless action is taken, every American taxpayer will see a massive tax increase after December 31, 2010. This will impose an enormous financial burden on American families, slow economic growth, cost America jobs, and make it more difficult to address the country’s long-term budget, economic, and security chal lenges. Tax relief enacted in 2001 and 2003 proved critical to generating a strong economy that has experienced growth despite the war on terror, the collapse in the housing market, and other economic challenges over the last six years. The Thompson keeps on the path to economic growth by ensuring the following:

§ Reduced individual income tax rates, saving every tax-paying family a minimum of $600.

§ Preserving the $1000 child tax credit, which was doubled from $500 per child.

§ Protecting Marriage penalty relief.

§ Retaining Education tax incentives, including Coverdell Education Savings Accounts, 529 college savings plans, and deductions for higher education expenses.

§ Reduced tax rates on capital gains and qualified dividends.

§ Increased expensing of investment for small businesses.

o Permanently Repeal the Death Tax. Current law provides death tax relief, but only through 2010. The death tax is inherently unfair. Under the Thompson Plan, the death tax would be permanently repealed, protecting millions of American families, including small business owners and family farmers, from double taxat ion at rates ranging as high as 55 percent.

o Repeal the Alternative Minimum Tax. The AMT is a separate tax system created 30 years ago to ensure that a few high income Americans could not use deductions and credits to eliminate their tax liability. However, because the AMT is not indexed to inflation, it is penalizing Americans it was never intended to affect. The Thompson plan would index the exemption amounts annually so that millions of middle class families will not become subject to this tax.

o Reduce the Corporate Tax Rate. The United States has one of the highest rates of tax on businesses of the industrialized nations, second only to Japan. Studies suggest the U.S. Treasury is actually losing tax revenue by keeping the corporate tax rate so high. In order to increase the competitiveness of U.S. comp anies in the global marketplace, the Thompson plan would reduce the U.S. top corporate tax rate from 35 percent to no more than 27 percent, which is the approximate average of the world’s leading economies. This tax reduction will promote U.S. competitiveness, encourage companies to keep their operations (and jobs) in the U.S., and spur continued economic expansion and growth.

o Permanently Extend Small Business Expensing. Small businesses create two-thirds of all new jobs in America, and employ nearly 59 million Americans – more than half of the nation’s private-sector workforce. Women own a quarter of all small businesses, minorities are nearing the 20% mark, and Hispanic Americans are opening their own businesses at a rate thre e times the national average. Current law allows small businesses to write-off purchases of equipment of up to $125,000 per year, rather than depreciating those assets over time. Making expensing of equipment and other small business items permanent will encourage greater investment and growth.

o Update and Simplify Depreciation Schedules. The current depreciation schedules are outdated and in many cases do not reflect the realistic useful life of an asset. This is particularly true for investments in high technology. For example, computers must be depreciated over three years, even though they become ob solete in half that time. The Thompson plan would simplify and update these schedules to allow American businesses to make the investments they need to compete and create more high-quality jobs.

o Expand Taxpayer Choice. The Thompson plan would give Americans greater choice, by giving them the option of remaining under the current, complex tax code or opting for a simplified, flat tax code. The simplified tax code would contain two tax rates: 10% for joint filers on income of up to $100,000 ($50,000 for s ingles) and 25% on income above these amounts. The standard deduction would be more than doubled to $25,000 for joint filers and $12,500 for singles. The personal exemption amount would be increased to $3,500. Therefore, a family of 4 would be exempt from income tax on the first $39,000 of income. The simplified tax code would contain no other tax credits or deductions. It would also retain the 15% tax rate on capital gains and dividends. This approach would dramatically simplify taxes for tens of millions of Americans. This proposal would serve as a stepping-stone to fundamental tax reform.

Open Blogging-How Do You Like the Georgia GOP’s Pre-Planning On Water & Traffic?

Bill Simon, October 15th, 2007

You got to hand it to us, the GOP, as leaders, we don’t much think about the future unless it’s the future sex lives of consenting adults.

In 2001, then-Governor Roy Barnes proposed the Northern Arc to help alleviate traffic on the north end of 285, as well as I-75 and I-85.

BUT, on a wave of protests from residents who would be affected by the Arc, as well as legislators who were running in the districts involved in the Arc’s path, the anti-Arc crowd swept Republican Sonny Perdue into office in 2002. And, the Northern Arc project was killed.

Six years later, we’ve got even worse traffic. But, our GOP leadership in the Mansion, the House, and the Senate, all believe if you bury a problem (and never utter a word about it) the problem will go away.

Which brings us to the most acute problem in the northern part of Georgia now: low water supplies.

However, it’s not as if it has just snuck-up on us. The region has experienced low rainfall for YEARS. And, earlier this summer, Governor Perdue pulled a little “pray for rain when we have a 99% chance of it predicted already” stunt in mid-Georgia.

But, had he (and, the other GOP leaders) looked at the regional problem, they could have decided MONTHS ago to ban ALL outdoor watering use. However, we just don’t like to think about the future too much, unless, it’s about how much money we can raise OR, as I said before, the sex lives of consenting adults. That sh*t is stuff the GOP really “cares about deeply.”

So now, we are getting close to banning all water use except for the necessity of drinking and hygiene.

There is a report out last week that said the Atlanta metro-area has about a 3-month supply of water in Lake Lanier. Three weeks ago was when Sonny got off his duff and looked around and said nothing…..nothing until the Cobb County Water Authority who FIRST declared a ban on all outdoor watering. THEN Sonny decided “Golly….if someone else is willing to take a political risk, I guess I will to!”, and that’s how Sonny came to banning all outdoor watering use in North Georgia.

Here’s the new slogan for the GOP: Leaders On The Sex Lives of Others, Dead Last On Everything Else. Vote For Us, Won’t You?

What’s your input?

Newt Gingrich For President?

Bill Simon, September 26th, 2007

I was having a conversation the other day with a friend of mine. This guy was Mr. “Golly-Gee, Let’s Go With Newt For President!” I think he’s lost his frickin’ mind.

I think anyone who thinks Newt is electable as President has lost their frickin, feeble mind.

I think anyone who contributes money to Newt has REALLY lost their mind.

I think that even IF Newt’s wishful “$30 million” in contributions materializes, all that will prove is that those folks who gave that money have a lot more dollars than common sense (and, their names and addresses should be sent to every gypsy traveler in the country because, apparently, they LIKE being taken for a ride, and need more of them until their bank account is drained.)

Can you imagine if Newt goes up against Hillary Clinton? Whatever high ground he can claim on issues, he cannot beat her on the MOST basic morality issue that supposedly is the “glue” that holds this society together. The glue that the GOP has been screaming about for the past decade: Marriage. Fidelity. NOT committing adultery. (Duhhhh….Newt? Whut dew yew think about fy-dell-e-tee in marriage?)

And, the decision to vote for a candidate (any candidate) is ultimately decided upon whom the voter trusts the most. Newt has great ideas and he may have great vision, but he is not trustworthy.

And, that’s all I have to say on the matter.

Emory Hospital – Caught With Their Hands In The Cookie Jar?

politicalvine, September 26th, 2007

By Ron Marshall, the New Grady Coalition

Atlanta’s public is just discovering the fault lines between two of the historic partners for healthcare, Emory University and Grady Memorial Hospital.

But this is not a new story. In 2000, Dr. Samuel Newcom of Emory University School of Medicine predicted that the expansion of Emory Crawford Long Hospital would result in “class cleansing” at Grady Memorial Hospital, with Emory cherry-picking the profitable patients for Crawford Long.

Emory fired the audacious Dr. Newcom but history has proven him right.

Grady fired other doctors and administrators for speaking out, including their senior Vice President, Joyce Harris. Harris, Newcom and others who sounded the alarm that Grady was in dire straights were shown how they were appreciated. These are the kind of people we need running Grady. Emory makes great doctors, and we love Emory. But Emory has not done right by Grady. It is hard to partner with a University that insists on competing with you.

Longtime Grady trustee William Loughrey recently revealed exactly how Emory pulled off this cherry picking scheme. An analysis by Deloit Consulting shows that Emory has understaffed the money making service lines at Grady, forcing Grady patients to seek care at Crawford Long or other Emory owned hospitals.

Grady trustee Dr. Christopher Edwards has publicly stated that the hospital’s biggest challenge is the fact that its “partner” – Emory University – is its biggest competitor. Read the rest of this entry »

A Good Letter Sent To The NAACP

PV, September 16th, 2007

[PV Note: We are not the author of this letter…but, it is quite appropriate and fitting. The NAACP are nothing but a bunch of clueless idiots, and “Mike” was being way too gentle.]

An Open Letter To The Atlanta Chapter of the NAACP

RE: Dog Fighting & Michael Vick

Dear Dr. R. L. White
Head of the Atlanta Chapter of the NAACP

My name is Mike. I am 27, and I am neither a member of your organization nor a resident of Atlanta. Normally I wouldn’t bother you, but then I came across this article, and it compelled me to write. Since I am white, I am going to tread carefully, so as not to offend your gentle sensibilities. But, Dr. White, you are a dumb ass.

Speaking for white people everywhere, let me fill you in on something. This case was not a race issue. It was about killing dogs. And if there is one thing people don’t stand for, regardless of race, it’s killing dogs.

You compared it to deer hunting. Again, Dr. White, you are a dumb ass. When was the last time a deer greeted you at the door when you got home from work? Or curled up next to you and gently nuzzled in to take a nap? Dogs are pets, you moron. They aren’t meant to be killed for sport. The failure to make this distinction only makes you look stupider.

Sorry, I lost my temper there.

Here’s the thing, Dr. White. The reason people were outraged by this was because he killed dogs. If Ben Roethlisberger or Brett Favre had done it, the reaction would have been the same, I guarantee you. The difference is, had Ben Roethlisberger or Brett Favre done this, you wouldn’t see white supporters rallying behind them, proclaiming he was innocent in the face of mountains of damning evidence, supporting him regardless of the outcome.

Let me let you in on a secret about white people; when one of our own makes us look bad, we condemn him and disown them. I suggest you adopt a similar policy. If your group’s mission is truly to advance “colored” people (your word, not mine) you’d disassociate from the idiots in your race. It can’t go wrong, trust me.

Anyway, Dr. White, I don’t want this to come off as racist, because it isn’t. Michael Vick is a despicable person who happens to be black. The sooner you realize that, the less of a dumb ass you’ll look like.

Sincerely,

Mike

Guns Save Lives – Part 259,345

(COMER, GEORGIA) – James “Dink” Hendricks’ home sat unoccupied since the 82-year-old widower died in June, and on Friday, someone took the opportunity to break into the house on the fringe of downtown Comer to steal cash, jewelry and other valuables.

Hendricks’ son moved in the next day to guard the house at the corner of Sims and Gholston streets, and shortly after midnight Sunday, Jerry Hendricks shot and killed a burglar who broke in again, state and local officials said.

It appears the shooting death of 41-year-old William Keith Parks will be ruled a justifiable homicide, according to officials, who said a final determination won’t be made until after investigators review results from an autopsy performed Monday at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s State Crime Lab in Decatur.

“That’s kind of the way we’re looking at it,” said Mike Ayers, assistant special agent in charge of the GBI’s Athens field office.

Violent crime is rare in the Madison County community, which was abuzz Monday as news of the shooting spread.

“It took us all by surprise,” said Hendricks’ neighbor. Barbara Bendzunas. “My phone has been ringing off the hook all morning from people calling wanting to know what happened.”

Bendzunas and her husband, Paul, own Bendzunas Glass Studio and Gallery located in front of their sprawling Double Creek Farm, adjacent to Jerry and Kathy Hendricks’ property.

“The Hendricks’ pretty much keep to themselves, but they’re real nice folks,” said Barbara Bendzunas, who also raises horses and years earlier gave riding lessons to Jerry Hendricks’ son.

The expansive art studio was wide open and unattended Monday morning as Bendzunas looked after horses in stables near her house, down a dirt road about a quarter of a mile behind the art gallery.

“We’re going to be locking our doors now,” said Bendzunas, who admitted to cocking her own shotgun “many a night” upon hearing noises that usually turned out to have been made by a dog or other animal.

“The Comer Police Department has only two officers,” she said. “It’s not like you can call the a beat officer and they’ll be here right away.”

Deborah Brewster knows the dangers of city living, having stayed in Roswell and Sandy Springs, and it was the “bohemian” atmosphere of downtown Comer combined with the rural outskirts that brought her to open Funky Junction antiques on North Avenue two years ago.

But she’s had to call on Madison County authorities to report “shady” characters she’s seen climbing the stairs past her shop to the apartments above, people she said bear the hallmarks of methamphetamine addicts.

“I’m telling you, it’s the meth,” Brewster said. “You look into their eyes, and you’re looking at death. Comer is changing. The city is moving out here, and the crime is following.”

Comer Police Chief Brent Zellner couldn’t recall the last time there was a homicide within the city limits, but he said burglaries and property crimes are on the rise, in large part due to drug addicts looking to finance their habits.

“I’m sure that could have had something to do with it,” Zellner said of the break-in that resulted in Parks’ death. “Meth is here; it’s everywhere. (Parks) may have been associated with something to that effect.”

Madison County Sheriff Clayton Lowe said Jerry Hendricks, who lived next door to his father’s house, was sleeping on a living room couch when awakened at about 12:30 a.m. by the sound of breaking glass in a back door.

Hendricks opened fire on the intruder, who was killed by a single shotgun blast to his chest from close range, Lowe said.

“He fired pretty much to protect his own interests,” the sheriff said.

Lowe said he didn’t know if Parks was responsible for Friday night’s burglary, and he said Parks and Hendricks did not know each other.

Hendricks was staying in his father’s house with his wife, who called 911, officials said, and Parks was pronounced dead at the scene.

Parks, of Carlton, had an extensive criminal history that included arrests for burglaries and drug possession, officials said.

Parks was released from jail just last month after he was arrested for allegedly burglarizing a commercial building down the block from Hendricks’ house, Platoon Uniforms & Sportswear Inc., according to Lowe.

“He was wanted on an auto theft warrant when he was shot and killed,” the sheriff said.

Ayers said the GBI will present its report of the shooting to Madison County District Attorney Bob Lavender, who will decide whether to bring charges or not.

Ayers said the fatal shooting appeared to have been justified “on the face of it,” as Parks broke into the house and refused Hendricks’ order to leave.

“Our understanding is there was a verbal challenge that was not complied with,” the agent said.

Jerry and Kathy Hendricks were not at home and could not be reached Monday.

Lowe said Jerry Hendricks was “laying low” after what happened because he was deeply disturbed that he took someone’s life.

“He’s broke down about it,” the sheriff said.

Charlie Bailey – The Passing of A Republican Friend In Georgia

Bill Simon, September 4th, 2007

Obituary for Charles (Charlie) Bailey

Veteran Republican campaigner Charles (Charlie) Eugene Bailey passed away Monday, Labor Day, September 3, at 10:35 a.m. following neurological complications from several strokes and ultimate heart failure. He was 61.

Bailey was born September 11, 1945 and raised in Crossville, TN.

“My father taught me many lessons during my life that I will never forget,” said Kevin Bailey, his youngest son, (former HD 22 candidate and current prospective Congressional District 4 candidate). “He taught me to always be a gentleman and be there for people in their time of need.”

“He taught us to work hard and treat people fairly.”

“The people of Georgia have lost a great political leader because even when he lost his campaign he was always there to help others.”

Bailey was a lifelong Republican and one of the founding members of the modern Republican Party in Georgia. He played a role in the election of many Republican candidates and himself mounted four separate campaigns for Secretary of State. In 2002, he won the Republican primary for Secretary of State and carried the party’s banner in the general election.

“Charlie was passionate about public service,” said Senator David Shafer, whose friendship with Bailey began in 1996 when they both ran for Secretary of State. “He was a tireless campaigner. He cared about people and loved politics. He was an honest and decent man, and he will be missed.”

Bailey’s longtime friend, Jay Rogers, said “Charlie Bailey was a very loyal, passionate, and true friend who enjoyed Tennessee and Falcons football and was fun to be with; I have lost a dear friend.”

He is survived by his three children, two step-children, and their families; first born son Charles E. Bailey, Jr., daughter Anne M. (Bailey) Mattis and Ben Mattis, her children Michael and Courtney Mattis (and his great-grandchild Cassie Mattis), and Charlie’s second son, Kevin M. Bailey and his fiancée Annie Harris.

Bailey was active in church and community. He served as Georgia President of Pop Warner Football and Lieutenant Governor of Optimist International. He was active in the American Cancer Society, Habitat for Humanity and his children’s school activities, including band, sports and Scouts. He was a member of Roswell United Methodist Church, North Georgia Emmaus Community, Friends of Disabled Adults and Children, and Promise Keepers.

There will be a memorial service on Friday at for all who would like to attend with welcoming of friends an hour before the service and food donated from Williamson Bros. Bar-B-Q and fellowship afterward.

This will be held at Roswell United Methodist Church (located at 814 Mimosa Boulevard – Roswell, GA 30075 (http://www.rumc.com).) The time will be at 4 p.m. The family has asked that no flowers be given.

Memorial gifts may be given to Friends of Disabled Adults and Children, FODAC 4900 Lewis Road, Stone Mountain, GA 30083 (http://www.fodac.org.)

Lauren McDonald of McDonald and Son Funeral Home and Crematory in Cumming assisted with arrangements.
