Pat Robertson & Ray Nagin: Twin Sons of Different Mothers

by Bill Simon

First, it was Pat Robertson proclaiming that Israel Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s stroke two weeks ago was caused by (and, I quote) “God’s punishment for Sharon trying to divide the land of Israel.”

Now, it’s Mayor Ray Nagin of New Orleans proclaiming that God sent the hurricanes to his city and the Gulf Coast because He is mad at America. (Yeahhhhh…)

Frankly, I thought Nagin would at least claim that it was Al-Quaida that started the hurricanes in the Atlantic and steered them right to his front door. Makes about as much sense as he does.

Back to Pat, I wonder why he hasn’t issued a proclamation about assassinating Iran’s leader for denying the Holocaust happened in Germany during WW II? My guess is that he’s fine with Iran’s Anti-Semitic comments, as long as they’re not talking about dividing his “Land of Israel,” Pat’s pretty well satisfied with whatever they say or do.

Al-qaeda would no doubt have loved being able to “steer the hurricane”, but since I doubt that particular piece of magic is currently available to them we are at least spared that worry. One DOES wonder just what they think “their” god is about that they CANNOT do that sort of thing, doesn’t one?

I’m not precisely sure how much latitude you’re planning to allow on here, so I guess I won’t post my actual thought on either Mr. Nagin or Mr. Robertson…. (I mean as regards the “casual poster”….)

  2. Bill Simon Says:

The only “latitude” I need to put constraints on is certain language choices by posters. So, no words that are too obscene or too derogatory.

Which, of course, may give you lots of latitude since the threshold of what’s offensive to me is much higher than folks outside the political realm. 🙂

*snicker* Well, I’m pretty “free” language-wise, but I’m a long-time forum contributor all over this world, so I do keep it clean in that direction.

As to offensive: it’s rather in the eye of the beholder. In general, one feels “offended” when one’s comfort-level is whanged on to some degree. I have an unimaginably high tolerance for stuff that would offend 99% of the people in this world, simply because I firmly believe that EVERYONE is entitled to hisser own opinion. Doesn’t mean I have to agree with it….

Back to the subject under discussion: Folks like Mr. Nagin and Mr. Robertson have such narrow world-views that anything they commentate SHOULD be suspect by anyone with half a brain. Unfortunately, too many of the good folks in this country no longer feel as if they NEED to think – because the media spoon-feeds them what the media wants them to believe and think.

Until people start taking back their own minds from the media dreck that’s currently living there, we will have those like the twins currently under dissection – and worse no doubt.

But that’s almost another whole rant: personal responsibility…. don’t get me started!

Yes brother Bill, I’m sure God is mad at the USA for being in Iraq, undergoing a just cause of removing an oppressive dictator from a beaten down people. Mad enough to send a hurricane barreling down on the Gulf Coast and New Orleans. Then again if Nagin professeses to have divine knowledge and ideas, surely he would remember the early chapters in the Bible, where God simply sent down all sorts of malady on people who were acting unjust and wild as hell, to rid them from the earth. I never seem to remember where He sent down such punishment on people who were acting in concordance with His ideals.

Maybe Nagin had the right scenario, just the wrong people who were responsible for making God mad. I would call it a hurricane, but after listening to Nagin, mmmmmmmmmmmmm, maybe it was Divine intervention sent down from above to rectify the illicit behavior of the casino and party capitol of the gulf. Thought provoking stuff.

Another thought. I have received several Ten Comandment e-mails. Especially the one about Moses carved into the door over the Supreme Court. Funny how our government, based around the Ten Comandments, is working to get a new democracy set up in Iraq, similiar to ours where people can have freedom and oppurtunity. In other words, reintroduce the Ten Comandments back to the geographical area in which it was originated. Pretty funky stuff huh………..I wonder if maybe we could get Nagin to figure that one out for us.

As always, it’s pitiful for people to use terrible situations such as the Katrina Hurricane to manipulate for their personal gain. A man of divine “knowledge” such as Nagin surely understands the ramifications of his actions. OK ole fren, the new format looks good, and based on this years upcoming subject matter, I predict you will have a ball.
moocho gracius, aliki leeda, undela undela, and all that jazz,
    gator.

Gator, it’s darned good to hear from you!

Thanks for the comments and the good cheer on the new site. Please feel free to spread the love on the new digs, especially down there in South Georgia.

Today's Deep Thought

One thing I always felt bad about was kicking Grandma in the head with my football shoes on. But what was her head doing right by the football like that? And how did the football get in her bed?
