Shirley? Surely You Can’t Be Serious?

by Bill Simon

I had a good laugh reading today’s METRO section of the AJC about Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin discussing how much money she needed for her new budget and how she was looking towards the state and federal government for help.

My laugh started with THIS tidbit: “[Franklin] suggested state and federal support…”

“State and federal support???” Yeah, right. Say, Shirley, call-up State Rep. Edward Lindsey and see if he’ll give you any help this year. Start the conversation off with a chuckle about the firehoses and the dogs you talked about in the commercial for John Eaves.

If ANY Republican gives Franklin and any of her lobbyist minions the time of day in THIS Session to propose financial help, let me know and I’ll dig-up the radio commercial she recorded and send it to them for a reminder that this mayor deserves $0 from the State of Georgia….this is not the year for handouts to race-baiters like Franklin.

Hopefully no republican will return her phone calls. She’s a lame duck. Be interesting to see what she does after ATL.

  2. Buzz Brockway Says:

But she wasn’t talking about the Republicans who can give her money, she was talking about other Republicans.

    Buzz,
    LOL

Race baiting is all good fun until the police bust into the home of an elderly black lady and shoot her to death.

The challenge is this — all those around Atlanta (and perhaps Georgia) need Atlanta. The City hosts the economic engine that generates a large number of jobs, etc. I too was extraordinarily disheartened by Mayor Franklin lending her voice to the John Eaves’ commercial, but I don’t think we can simply argue the state shouldn’t assist Atlanta from time to time.

Mind you, I’m not stating she should get what she wants. I’m just arguing we have to make sure Atlanta continues to do well to support the strong economy we all need to feed our families.

Republicans will crumple in all their weakness and help her out. You have to! Otherwise you are a racist!

Sing it loud and sing it proud, Brother Seth!

Today's Deep Thought

One afternoon, when I was about ten, I decided to walk over to the 'wrong side of the tracks.' At first I was a little scared. But then I noticed that the yards were nice, and so were the houses. In fact, most of the houses were better than those on our side of the tracks. A lot better.
