When Senators Say Dumb Things (Or, Is This A Case of a Dumb Senator Saying Something?)

by Bill Simon

Boy-oh-boy howdee! We got state senators in Georgia who strive to make fools of themselves, don’t we?

The latest is from Senator Nancy Shaefer (R-Habersham). From today’s AJC Political Insider Column: At a recent breakfast in Hart County, “Schaefer said 50 million abortions have been performed in this country, causing a shortage of cheap American labor. ‘We could have used those people.’ “

In case you have no idea of who Nancy Shaefer is, she is a politician who, after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast and New Orleans last fall, was rumored to have written a letter to her constituents stating that the hurricane hit because of all the homosexuality that took place in New Orleans.

    She’s an idiot

  2. Nick C. Says:

She is just another example of why we need better Republican primary results!

  3. terri in florida Says:

She is a prime example of why we have to keep abortion legal.

  4. PCDavis Says:

You got a good en there Bill. She’s gonna make a great publican…….

  5. Charley Levinson Says:

If an illegal immigrant gets an abortion, is that OK with her because there is one less nasty immigrant child getting free health care and education, or is it still murder?

One of the reasons we have stupid politicians saying stupid things is they know no one will put them on the spot with their obvious contradictions.

Awww, bless her ‘lil ‘ole heart; Schaefer was likely educated in the Georgia public school system. What’d my dear mother say… something along the lines of “you put that woman’s brain on the head of a pin and it’d roll around like a BB on a freeway.” And thank goodness for Reps like Schaefer; they make Reps like W look smart.

Today's Deep Thought

I scrambled to the top of the precipice where Nick was waiting. 'That was fun,' I said. 'You bet it was,' said Nick. 'Let's climb higher.' 'No,' I said. 'I think we should be heading back now.' 'We have time,' Nick insisted. I said we didn't, and Nick said we did. We argued back and forth like that for about 20 minutes, and then finally decided to head back. I didn't say it was an interesting story.
