Grover Norquist and his Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) operation(s) are going to be on the hot seat due to a recent complaint filed with the IRS.
The organization Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) recently filed a complaint on Norquist’s use of the ATR bank account to launder money for anti-lottery fights in Alabama coordinated by Ralph Reed and Jack Abramoff.
I don’t know what teeth a complaint filed by a non-government entity has, but if the IRS takes any notice of this, the tax-exempt status of ATR should be yanked and, if any wrongdoing of a criminal nature has been committed by Norquist, I hope he gets prosecuted just like every other white-collar criminal has, vis-a-vis, the Enron crowd.

Rumors have it that on the March 8, 2006 airing of The O’Reilly Factor, Ralph Reed ducked O’Reilly’s invitation to appear on the program to answer to the allegations that he was hired by Jack Abramoff because Abramoff knew exactly what kind of campaigns Ralph liked to run; that is, the kind that falsely stir-up the Christian faithful to become activists for causes that he can manipulate them into following.
Here’s the link to the O’Reilly Factor story.
How interesting that Mr. Ralph Reed, the man who always seeks the national spotlight and appearances on whatever news show he can get, panned the offer by Bill O’Reilly to come on his show and answer questions like Dr. James Dobson had the guts to do.
Obviously, Dobson had nothing to hide, so he went on the show. Obviously, since Ralphie DOES have something to hide, he cannot appear. And, on such a conservative show, he refuses to appear. Huh. Well, what about that? Guess it’s not the “MSM” that’s the problem for Ralph. It’s actually…Ralph himself.

Rumors have it that at tonight’s Georgia Republican Party President’s Day dinner, President Bush did make a reference to the 2006 Lt. Governor’s race in Georgia.
He is reported to have said “Two great candidates running for the lieutenant governor are with us — Casey Cagle and Ralph Reed and I appreciate them both being here tonight.”
Betcha Ralphie will make sure to only word his press release so that it states his name only. Who wants to bet? Huh? Huh? Who wants to bet against me?
Oh…one other thing. Everyone we’ve spoken to after the event has denied that Jack Abramoff was sitting at their table. But, since we didn’t talk to any of Reed’s folks, and there was this suspicious-looking guy there that wouldn’t take-off his hat during the dinner, it could have been Casino Jack himself there, reconnecting with his pals George and Ralphie…

Boy-oh-boy howdee! We got state senators in Georgia who strive to make fools of themselves, don’t we?
The latest is from Senator Nancy Shaefer (R-Habersham). From today’s AJC Political Insider Column: At a recent breakfast in Hart County, “Schaefer said 50 million abortions have been performed in this country, causing a shortage of cheap American labor. ‘We could have used those people.’ “
In case you have no idea of who Nancy Shaefer is, she is a politician who, after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast and New Orleans last fall, was rumored to have written a letter to her constituents stating that the hurricane hit because of all the homosexuality that took place in New Orleans.
Who woulda thunk that in 2006, a flake from the Left teams-up with a flake from the Right to mutually endorse a flagrant liar like Ralph Reed?
Last week, Newt Gingrich was the headliner for a reception for Ralphie. Zell Miller wasn’t there, but I suspect there will be another headliner with Miller headlining the event for Ralph sometime in the very near future.

If you haven’t been following the liberalization of the healthcare industry in Georgia, let me bring you up to date:
2005: A bill is passed by both houses and signed by the Governor that limits the amount of punitive damages to $350,000 if a doctor, a nurse practioner, an optometrist, a dentist, or a chiropractor (the actual list of protected species is much larger and you can read it all here) is found guilty of professional malpractice.
2006 – Part 1: A bill is passed by the State House authorizing optometrists the right/license to write prescriptions for treatment of the eyes.
2006 – Part 2: A bill is approved by the State House authorizing nurses the right/license to write prescriptions for anything for anyone.
Folks, what’s next? Perhaps lawyers will next be granted the right to write prescriptions? After all, according to Rep. Earl Ehrhart’s logic, a person who has gone through 4 years of college and 4 years of optometry schooling must be perfectly capable of writing prescriptions for the eye. And, if they screw-up, they can only be sued for a maximum of $350,000 for malpractice. Why not a lawyer who has gone through 7 years of schooling?
I’ll bet Ehrhart will next try to make it possible to award UGA graduates professional engineering licenses because, after all, they spent 4 years in college, just like engineering students.
Ah, it’s so nice that we have Republicans voting to liberalize the healthcare industry, all the while making sure to protect the new presecription-writers with limits on how much they can be sued for if, say, an optometrist who didn’t know about the conflict of certain drugs that someone was taking, recommended a drug that would cause complete blindness for the person.
This “everything pro-business” attitude of the Republicans is getting downright disgusting. If the Democrats have half a brain, they would seek to position themselves as being more “pro-individual” and “pro-consumer” because our protections as individuals are being quickly taken away by big-money PACs.
Wow! Apparently, some people do eventually get pissed-off enough to say “Enough is enough!”
Thus the case with TV Commentator Pat Robertson. He lost a bid for reelection to the Board of Directors for the National Religious Broadcasters.
The only “nicer guy” something like this could happen to would be Ralph Reed getting some sort of boot for his hypocritical actions of the past 7 years.
Not that I am currently a great defender or supporter of President Bush’s (no, I’m not a “rino”, but just a thinking Republican…which is becoming a rarer political animal today), but, there’s something kinda strange about the recently released video from the Associated Press on Bush supposedly participating in the Katrina briefing.
You can look at the video here.
The conversation between FEMA Director Mike Brown and his team looks genuine enough.
But, on the video of President Bush sitting in a room talking in a speaker-phone, supposedly talking about moving-in resources to help, etc., the date at the bottom of the video reads WHITE HOUSE 0725.
The seventh month is July, not August. It was August 25 when Hurricane Katrina was barreling towards New Orleans, not July 25, which is that the video reflects.
Can someone reconcile this for me?

Rumors have it that longtime Cherokee County Republicans Bart Brannon and Dick Hall have finally come out of their closets and start a new auxiliary party in the county: The Brokeback Mountain Republican Party.
In a press release that hit the fan this morning, Bart Brannon stated that he was so moved by the characters in the recently released movie of the same name, that he called Dick Hall immediately from his cellphone after the movie. They spent several days hashing-out their feelings for each other and the parallel between them and the boys in the movie. They eventually decided that the best way to express their mutual affection for each other was to start this organization together and quickly grow it into a political force.

Michelle Malkin has a better understanding of our present and future than President Dubious and his claque:
The UAE is our “friend,” we are told, and to question that assertion, we are scolded, is to engage in reckless prejudice and life-threatening insult. Yes, well, some friends are more equal than others. To instinctively trust a longtime, stalwart Western democracy more than an Arab newcomer with a mixed record on combating terror, international crime and Islamic extremism is not “Islamophobia.” It’s self-preservationism in a time of war.
Seriously, I have a question for those who blindly support the President on this deal: Are you truly willing to stake your life on your beliefs that the UAE are our buddies for life? You may be doing just that.
The interesting thing you should take note of is that regime change in the countries of the Middle-East can happen at the snap of your fingers.
At one time, we were best buds with the Shah of Iran. In 1979, he was pushed into exile and was replaced by the Ayatollah Khomeini, who promptly established an extreme Islamic regime. Anyone born after 1980 recall something called the “Hostage Crisis?”
The fact that Dubai Ports is owned/controlled by the government of the United Arab Emirates should really give ANYONE with half a brain’s knowledge of history a long pause to consider the consequences of turning ANY control over our ports to a government-run company from any Arabic/Islamic state of the Middle-East.
Xenophobic? Puh-leeze. You’re a complete imbecile if all you can muster is that those of us who are against this deal are “racist” in our objections.
We know history, and you don’t. In this case, it won’t be that those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it. It will be that those who ignore history doom others to repeat it.

Even though I was their captive, the Indians allowed me quite a bit of freedom. I could walk about freely, make my own meals, and even hurl large rocks at their heads. It was only later that I discovered they were not Indians at all, but dirty clothes hampers.
