Commitment, Not Capitulation

We reported last week on the apparent capitulation of the Johnny Isakson campaign to sign-on as a co-sponsor of HR 2525, the Fair Tax bill.

Upon further investigation, it turns out that Isakson had coincidently decided that week to sign onto the bill and the decision wasn't due to any discussions on the Neal Boortz show. In fact, the campaign reports that there was no "flood of phone calls" as was reported to us via some other sources.

We tip our hat to the Isakson campaign for coming to the right decision on their own.

Sleazy Come, Sleazy Stay-Part 2

We reported last week on the issue of political consultant Tom Perdue giving "pro bono" advice to U.S. Senate candidate Mac Collins. We stated that it was our opinion that Perdue could not legally donate his time or advice to help Collins because Perdue is a paid professional.

A follow-up to last week's discussion is the revelation that Tom Perdue has maxed-out on financial contributions to Mac Collins: $2000 for the primary and $2000 for the general. Thus, we contend that Mr. Perdue cannot legally donate any time to the Collins' campaign.

Hey, but, the GOP is in power everywhere, so, who needs to follow campaign contribution laws, eh?

Snellville News

Rumors have it that Mayor Brett Harrell will not be seeking reelection this November. Current Councilman Jerry Oberholtzer, who was seeking reelection as councilman will now run for Mayor to replace Harrell.

His likely opponent will be the man Harrell knocked-off of a 27-year perch 4 years ago, Emmett Clower.

PV's Viewpoint: If the antics of Clower during the last 4 years are any indication, it will likely be the nastiest race ever run in this small, sleepy Gwinnett town of 18,000 residents if Clower actually qualifies.

Interesting Development In The 6th...

Rumors have it that 6th District candidate John MacCallum (yeah, the guy we said we'd ignore) has signed-on such consulting notables as Ralph Reed and media magician Fred Davis to his campaign consulting committee.

Former finance director for the state GOP, Tamara Hyatt is McCallum's primary fundaiser.

PV's Analysis: Must have been a swell gift to himself for Ralph to walk-off with a copy of the Georgia GOP fundraising list...
